IEER for teaching History
in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education in Portugal, with a particular focus on the theme of the Portuguese Discoveries, a subject taught in the 8th grade.
Using a DBR approach, it aims to understand how immersive technologies, game-based learning, and narrative-driven challenges can enhance engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes.
The key aspects include intelligent tutoring systems (ITS), non-player characters (NPCs), and co-creation design methodologies.
The study aims to provide AI-driven feedback through NPC interactions, the educational role of NPCs in supporting motivation, and the impact of co-created IEERs on engagement, interest, and active problem-solving skills. Its goal is to establish best practices for history teachers to integrate immersive educational experiences into their teaching, showcasing IEERs as innovative tools for active learning, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement with historical content.
